George Bireline was born in 1923 and died in 2002. He served in WWII and after the war enrolled at Bradley University and thereafter obtained his MFA at UNC. He was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1967 and his taught at the NC State School of Design from 1955 until he retired.
