Melville Miller was a member of the Realists of Baltimore.  Miller was born in Baltimore and studied at what is now referred to as the Maryland Institute College of Art.  He studied under French – American artist Jaques Margoer.  Miller favoured painting Baltimore locations in the realist tradition such as Firehouses, warehouses, dockside views, important architectural landmarks and maritime subjects.  He passed away at age 70 in 2007.
